Client Designer Communication

One of the more challenging aspects of being a designer is learning how to best communicate with various clients. Chances are, each client will have a different style of communication. It really depends on your client’s personality and the way they run their business. Learning your client’s preferred method of communication is extremely helpful. It’s important to not take things personally. As a designer one must remain open to criticism, and willing to take feedback and improve designs accordingly. Whether it’s through email, in person meetings, phone calls, or other methods of communication, it is essential to stay organized and keep track of the feedback you receive and the the various iterations of drafts along the way. A good designer is always willing to make changes and compromise with a client to meet their needs. As a designer, if one has opinions on how one can make something better, it is important to let your client know how you feel. However, ultimately a successful finished project looks like something that both the designer and the client are content with. There’s always a happy medium to be found!
